We are currently looking for an highly organized, efficient cross-functional Project Manager to guide all new and updated projects from R&D to final launch.

The Project Manager, Product and Packaging is responsible for providing project management for all new products, from inception through launch, and project managing changes to existing projects (change control). This position will run new product and change control meetings and ensure continuous clear communication across the company as to status, challenges, and next steps for all products projects. The Project Manager works closely with R&D, marketing, purchasing, inventory, shipping & receiving, and customer service to ensure new and updated products transition smoothly through all stages, from early development and marketing research, to packaging concepts and design, then printing, production, and launch.

Primary Job Duties:

  • Manage and create projects for all stages of new product development, including consideration, development, updates to existing products, change controls
  • Start working with R&D as soon as potential new products are identified, and project manage the progress of those potential products through the various stages of new product development.
  • Perform competitive analysis and marketing research as needed to help inform the viability of potential new products (e.g., is there a market for this type of product, competitive product pricing, what claims are being made by competitive products, levels of key ingredients found in competitive products).
  • Perform surveys, where appropriate, for input from our sales, retailers and consumers for additional input and data to help inform leadership of what would be needed to have a successful launch and sales.
  • Build out the project and tasks in project software for each new SKU and maintain updates within said program as needed to ensure there is full transparency and communication throughout the product development, packaging design, printing, production, and launch stages.
  • Manage the timeline buildout and adherence to the timeline for all stages of the product development and launch once we have decided to move forward with a product.
  • Run New Products Meetings and Change Control Meeting and provide visibility to weekly updates to the full team, including company leadership.
  • Manage packaging design stages. Work closely with the head of marketing to obtain and provide clear direction to the packaging designer and manage edit cycles and proofing rounds.
  • Work with R&D, Regulatory and other departments to obtain needed information for final packaging such as Supplement Facts Panel, ingredients, UPC, Finished Goods/Item numbers, required packaging elements, etc.
  • Manage all rounds of proofing, including regulatory and legal reviews - complete label proofing checklist.
  • Communicate with purchasing and ensure that packaging is moving through department at the appropriate rate, identifying any hurdles and working with appropriate departments (inventory & quality) as needed to keep timing on track.
  • Coordinate closely with marketing on timing, to ensure readiness for launch, including website updates, photography, email, collateral, and social media communications.
  • Work closely with Sales to understand launch needs, upcoming shows, or events, etc. where presentation, collateral or communications will be necessary, and works with the appropriate people in marketing as needed to ensure communication is clear and goals are met as well as providing updated packaging to those customers who require pre-notification.
  • Provide project management for all updates to existing products (Change Control), largely following the same processes and system as for new product launches.
  • Assist in the project management of change controls for existing products.
  • Ensure clear communication and documentation across the company for all needs pertaining to packaging and/or formulation changes.
  • Clearly communicate timing and implementation of updates to existing products and new product launches to ensure marketing, sales and customer service and ecommerce teams are able to accurately plan for updates for website, presentations and sales collateral (sales decks, pricing sheets, sell sheets, etc.); product and lifestyle photography needs; product FAQs and other tools, assets and communications relating to new or updated products.
  • Run Change Control Meetings and keeps leadership and the full company team apprised of the ongoing status of product changes.
  • Work with Print Vendor(s), approval of version pre-print, approval of color proof (1st print) and another departments (Marketing, Sales,
  • Executive, Inventory, Shipping etc).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in project management preferred
  • Minimum to 3-5 years of experience specific to project management as it pertains to new product development, product change controls and packaging strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the roles of R&D, marketing, purchasing, inventory, legal, sales and other departments as they pertain to new product development and product change controls.
  • Extremely organized, able to juggle multiple priorities, and keep many different projects simultaneously moving smoothly at different rates.
  • Excellent communication skills, and able to adapt communications to the needs of a wide range of people and departments throughout the company.
  • Understand the various stages of new product development and change control for existing projects.
  • Capable of both following existing SOPs and to develop and improve SOPs and systems to bring greater efficiencies, better communications, etc.
  • Flexible and able to adapt to work with a range of personalities, schedules and people throughout the company for success.
  • A strong understanding of the various roles of R&D, marketing, quality, purchasing, inventory, legal and leadership in product development, updates to existing products, packaging design and review, and purchasing of packaging and raw materials.
  • Clear understanding what, apart from the product itself, is required for a successful product launch, and be able to support the marketing needs around new product launches as well as changes to existing products.
